Having been in the trade for nearly thirty years, I have always had a passion for looking after beers, real ales and keeping a good cellar. I was fortunate to inherit a very well kept cellar in 2009, here at the Coach. I have strived to maintain that and we are proud to have a great reputation for the best real ale in town and have appeared in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for the past twenty three consecutive years. Pre-COVID, I would always look to have six real ales on. We currently offer four, to make sure we maintain the consistency and quality. Mighty Oak’s Captain Bob, Adnam’s Broadside, Oakham Citra and a rotating, usually golden, guest ale. Hopefully, something for everyone!
Being slightly tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the high street, I think we can get away with offering a few different keg beers. We currently serve Meister Pilsner and Stuttgarter Helles from the Dinkelacker Brewery. These are brewed in Germany according to their strict purity laws and imported. They aren’t mass produced under license over here. You will taste the difference. A rotating guest keg which is currently our first attempt at a sour beer from Rooster’s in Yorkshire. ‘The Hanging Gardens of Basildon’, a Peach, Grapefruit and Basil Sour! One of my favourite, modern breweries is Howling Hops in Hackney Wick. I have managed to persuade Gray & Sons to stock their ‘Tropical Deluxe’ for me exclusively. With four draught and real ciders, a very good pint of Guinness, fine wines and about twenty gins on offer, I’m confident there’s something for everyone here. Cheers
